From the various Individual Orals and from my own there were a few things that should be kept in mind for the next practices, if it happens to be the case, as well as the final one in May. Some of the points that were strong and should be maintained for further IOs are clearly identifying the global issue, summarising the texts being analysed, articulating words properly and speaking at a pace that makes what’s being said clear and easily understandable. A few other things that were successful and should be kept for future IOs are sticking to the analysis of one text and not making comparisons between the different texts, using varied language that is appropriate and relevant to the global issue, and integrating quotes that help show how the author expresses her ideas.
However, there are things that should be kept in mind that can be overlooked when doing the Individual Oral which can make the difference between a high level IO and a mediocre one. Some of these aspects include explaining the impact the text has on the audience, commenting on the effectiveness of the stylistic choices in the communication of the message, suggest reasons why the author might have made those specific stylistic choices during the analysis. Furthermore, there needs to be a short comparison of the texts including the intentions of the authors and how these compare, and after that present which one is the most effective in doing so. All of the different aspects mentioned in this paragraph and the previous one will help me achieve the highest grade possible for this examination. They will help me showcase my knowledge and critical thinking skills as well as allow me to distinguish my presentation from mediocre ones.
